Sweitzer started out as a community dream. The park was the vision and legacy of Morgan Sweitzer. The farmer and fruit grower donated a portion of the park’s land to the state to develop a recreation destination. Later, the state bought additional land and added-on to the park. Today this lake-based retreat for the Western Slope provides day-use nature, picnic and water recreation to area residents and travelers alike. It also serves as a great bird sighting area with about 179 species of birds having been spotted in the area. In the distance you can see the majestic San Juan Mountains, the Uncompahgre Plateau and Grand Mesa. We hope you have an enjoyable visit.
